ABOUT US

The Long Island Chess Club (LICC) was founded in 2007. Our mission: to promote the royal game of chess on Long Island. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 10:45 PM at the United Methodist Church, 470 East Meadow Ave., East Meadow, NY 11554. The church is a non-smoking facility. Spectators and visitors are welcome.

Club Membership (optional): $50/yr. for adults, $40/yr. for seniors 65 and over and students in grades K-12. Members receive a reduced entry fee for all LICC events.

Please bring pieces, boards, clocks, and pen/pencil – no equipment is provided. The LICC is an affiliate of the United States Chess Federation and all games are rated as such. USCF membership is required for tournament play. To join or renew, please visit www.uschess.org. Memberships/renewals will not be available at the tournament site.

Byes: Half point byes are available for players who need to miss a round. The number of half point byes permitted will be listed for each tournament. Registration is from 6:45 - 7:15 PM the first week of each tournament, but players may enter after the first round with half point byes for rounds missed up to the maximum allowed. Players are required to give advance notice if they need to miss a round by sending an e-mail to nfbellon@gmail.com by 9:00 PM the night before the round to be missed. For last minute byes on the day of the round, contact/message the TD by 6:30 PM. Last round byes must be requested during the first half of the tournament and are irrevocable.

Do not miss a round without giving notice! This is extremely rude and irresponsible and deprives a player of a game. Forfeit losses due to non-appearance wreak havoc on the integrity of the tournament and will not be tolerated by the LICC. A player who doesn’t request a bye and fails to appear will be fined $10, unless a credible excuse regarding a personal emergency is presented to the TD in a timely manner. Further offenses will lead to stiffer penalties at the discretion of the TD.

For bad weather closures, please check the HOMEPAGE the day of the round for an announcement. Please do not call the church! In the rare event of a round being cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstance, all players will be given a half point bye; rounds are unable to be rescheduled.
